In the run-up to the 2016 Scottish Parliament elections, Culture Counts organised the Culture Hustings, which saw representatives from the political parties debate their cultural policies. It was an opportunity to directly question our politicians and hear their answers on the future of culture in Scotland. A recording of the event is now available below:
About Culture Counts:
At the beginning of 2011 key agencies in Scotland representing the arts, media, culture, heritage, cultural industries and museums came together with a common aim of positively and progressively highlighting the value of arts, culture and creative industries. FST provides a secretariat to the group, helping to coordinate meetings, maintaining the website and social media and implementing agreed action points.
In recognition of the significant economic and social contribution made by the arts, culture and the creative industries, the Culture Counts group asks that:
- Culture and creativity is specifically included in any national outcome structure, strengthening the framework for local authorities to support culture.
- Continued core investment for culture is maintained.
- Incentives for growth through specific initiatives are maintained and developed locally and nationally.
