FST was delighted to support Project X’s Let’s Move to More Visibility Symposium, held at Tramway, Glasgow on Friday 22 September 2017.
This one-day symposium explored how dance and the performing arts sector in Scotland could develop to have a greater representation and support of artists and practitioners who identify as People of Colour (POC) and/or Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic (BAME).
Attendees to the Symposium discussed lots of actions for change and together came up with 3 actions we could all do within our own practice and in organisations/institutions we work in or work with. These practical steps are:
- Know your power as a cultural consumer
- Find or make a place for yourself at the table – make sure you are represented at all levels
- See where representation is missing, and speak up for this even when it doesn’t affect you directly
The team behind the event have now created a report which captures the day as well as including conclusions, provocations and actions for change. FST members can download a copy of the report in the Research & Resources section of our website.
