The Fundamentals of Flying is a CPD certified course that has been commissioned by the FST and will be run by the ABTT, the Association of British Theatre Technicians and is a sector-specific training course. The trainer is Steve Macluskie, Steve works at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as a Lecturer specialising in Technical Stage Management. Steve has been teaching Technical Management at RCS for over 10 years. He holds a Masters Degree in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education but still keeps active in the professional theatre industry by working freelance as a qualified rigger and automation programmer whenever he can. 

This session is aimed at those working as technicians, production and event staff who will need to work with flying professionally.  

 This is a certified course that will cover; terminology, parts of a counterweight set, loading and unloading, operating, first line maintenance, single and double purchase systems, putting knots into practice, tying off at a pin rail, spotting and other methods of hanging. Candidates will receive an ABTT CPD certificate and the current ABTT Code of Practice on Theatre Flying.
