Kate Bowen

Kate is a stage and screen writer and performing arts producer based in Glasgow. Awards and residencies for her writing include a six week attachment to The New Work Department of the National Theatre, London (2022); a Starter for Ten residency at the National Theatre of Scotland (2017); a place on the Channel 4 Playwrights’ Scheme (2016) and the annual Playwrights’ Studio Scotland New Writer's Award (2012). She was part of the first BBC Writersroom Scottish Voices Drama Writers’ group in 2018, and in 2022 became a BAFTA Connect member. Her work has been staged by Stockroom (previously Out of Joint), Play, Pie and a Pint, the Traverse, RADA and LAMDA. Her first produced play was directed by Kate Wasserberg and named by The Observer as one of their top ten theatre productions of 2018.

As a freelance producer she has worked with leading theatre, dance, live art and public art companies and artists, including (in Scotland) Angus Farquhar/Aproxima, David Leddy/Fire Exit, Graham McLaren/Theatre Babel, The Work Room, Stillmotion, The Arches, Fish and Game, The British Council, National Theatre of Scotland, Barrowland Ballet, Andy Manley, and the FST; for whom she created and delivered their first international touring course. In England she has worked with Unlimited Theatre, Artichoke, Made in China, Dancing Brick, Metis, Dance Umbrella and Subject to Change. She specialises in international touring, strategic planning, fundraising and project management.

She is also a workshop leader and has taught at RCS in Glasgow, FST in Edinburgh and LAMDA in London.
