UK Government: COVID-19 updates

In this section, you can find a selection of resources and signposting to key information relating to the UK Government’s COVID-19 response and recent updates. The UK Government has full responsibility for the current Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and the Self Employed Income Support Scheme, for guidelines relating to devolved matters please visit our Scottish Government updates here.

Financial Support

The following COVID-19 financial support is currently available through the UK Government:

The UK Government Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough) has been extended until 30 September 2021. From 1 July 2021, the level of grant will be reduced each month and employers will be asked to contribute towards the cost of furloughed employees’ wages.

Self Employment Income Support
The UK Government’s Self-Employment Income Support Scheme (SEISS) has been extended until September 2021. A fifth and final self-employed grant, worth up to £7,500, and covering 1 May to 30 September, will be open to claims from “late July” with more details announced at the end of June. There is a useful overview section on the Money Saving Expert website which covers many of the frequently asked questions relating to the scheme. You can view the latest UK Government updates on the fifth SEISS Grant here.

Working Safely Guidance

The UK Government guidance for people who work in performing arts, including arts organisations, venue operators and participants can be found here. Please note this guidance is not applicable in Scotland, however, it is similar to the Scottish Government guidance and may be useful for reference.

FST continues to work with UK Theatre and other professional bodies across the UK to advocate for as consistent an approach as possible across the entire UK sector.
