Culture Counts

Culture Counts is the collective voice of Scotland’s Cultural Sector.

Culture Counts was formed in 2011 to advocate for the value and importance of culture to life in Scotland and to place culture at the heart of decision-making across government. The group is made up of umbrella organisations across Scotland’s arts, screen, heritage and creative industries.

Culture Counts collaborates with the sector to provide guidance to decision makers in Government and Parliament about how we can achieve sustainable development goals through culture.

Culture Counts is funded by Creative Scotland through FST and by contributions from its core members.  FST Director chairs the Culture Counts Steering Group and Culture Counts staff are employed by FST.

Their website is a great source of advocacy-related resources, including a how-to advocacy guide, a searchable ‘useful facts’ database and up-to-date information on current UK and Scottish government consultations and reports. You can also sign up as a supporter to receive regular emails with actions you can take to support culture.
