Future Proofing

Future Proofing is a partnership project which aims to offer a sustainable solution to the personnel shortages in Scotland within creative production, stage management and technical skills by inspiring a new generation at entry level onwards and supporting the continuing professional development of our experienced practitioners and educators.

The project is a new development created in partnership between the Scottish Drama Training Network (SDTN) and the Federation of Scottish Theatre (FST) and leads on from the current CPTS (Creative Production and Technical Skills) partnership programme which was launched in 2013.

The programme is open to all, including non-members.

If you are interested in further information and updates on this programme, please contact Fiona McCurdy our Training and Professional Development Manager Fiona.mccurdy@scottishtheatre.org

The programme will include:

  • Production & Technical Forums
  • The Recent Graduate Bursary
  • A Training Fund
  • Graduate Induction Programme
  • School Promotions & Roadshows
  • Workplace Learning Programme
  • Production & Technical Forum – These will run twice per annum and would be jointly promoted and programmed by FST and SDTN.

Recent Graduate Bursary
This is a bursary programme to support recent graduates to undertake their first or early-career professional work, build their professional experience and skills and widen their professional networks in order to progress their career.

This opportunity also removes some of the financial pressure from the company hosting the placement as the bursary covers 85% of the cost of engaging the graduate.

Training Fund
This fund will enable theatre professionals and lecturers to ensure their professional skills are up to date and in line with ever-evolving practice and technology in the sector.  It will particularly benefit freelancers, on whom the theatre economy relies, and who do not have access to organisational training budgets.

Graduate Induction Programme
A training programme for theatre professionals to improve their practice in the recruitment, induction and further training of recent graduates into professional roles at the start of their career.

School Promotions & Roadshows
These events will give teachers and pupils across Scotland the opportunity to understand the range of production, stage management and technical roles in the industry and signpost appropriate formal training and informal routes into the profession.

Workplace Learning Programme
This programme will promote and support the matching of students with suitable and valuable professional industry work placement opportunities as part of their formal studies, addressing barriers of cost and location, by providing a ‘placement finder’ service and travel bursary fund.
