Sound Designer – Knights Theatre Company

Knights Theatre are looking for a Sound Designer to work on their production The Ballad of Ewan MacColl. There is potential for the applicant to form a relationship with the company for future productions and tours. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about theatre and care about work which challenges and inspires and reaches new people.

The Sound Designer will work with the concept of exploring Ewan MacColl’s life through an imaginary encounter which takes place on a hill in the Scottish highlands and travels to various places in his memory. Songs written by Ewan MacColl will be performed live in the production therefore the designer will need to be able to consider this in their sound design.

An interest in and knowledge of folk music and the music of Ewan MacColl would be an advantage for this role.

This is a piece of political theatre which explores the life of an activist, so interest in and experience with political theatre is beneficial e.g. Brecht. Experience of working on plays with songs and/or musical theatre would also be of interest. Designers will be required on a flexible basis for meetings and development sessions between January 2027 and March 2027, rehearsals and pre-production throughout April 2027 with opening scheduled for 1 May 2027.
